Jordanian Minister of Interior Hussein Majali stressed on Thursday the importance of boosting international cooperation to combat terrorism.
Majali made the remarks during the ministerial-level meeting which was hosted by the US State Department in Washington.
The world is facing numerous challenges because of the spread of terrorism in more than one area, Majali was quoted in a statement as saying by the Jordanian Interior Ministry.
He spoke about the efforts being exerted by Jordan to fight terrorism and extremism, which are defaming the true image of Islam.
Jordan, he added, had taken numerous steps to improve security and passed legislation to tackle terrorism. "These steps included stepping up border security and criminalizing any terrorist act inside the Kingdom."
The Kingdom's efforts also focused on fighting extremist thoughts through dialogue and preaching in cooperation between the public sector and civil society organizations.
Majali said it was important to bolster international cooperation by exchanging information and boosting security on the borders to fight foreign terrorists who arrive in the region.
