Jordanian Islamist lawyer Moussa Abdullah has called for Suleiman Abu Ghaith, former al-Qaeda spokesman and son-in-law to Osama bin Laden, to be released. The legal expert said Abu Gheith, who was extradited from Jordan to be tried on terrorism charges in the United States, had not been given an arrest warrant. Abu Ghaith’s name is not included on any international terror lists, Abdullah also claimed. Bin Laden’s relative is accused of affiliating with extremist elements in al-Qaeda. The United States wanted him extradited over his alleged connection to terrorist attacks. He appeared in a propaganda video in the aftermath of 9/11, standing beside bin Laden, who was killed in May 2011 in Pakistan in a covert US operation. Abdullah meanwhile claimed Abu Ghaith was still inside Jordan on March 1, when he reportedly made a telephone call to his sister from Queen Aliaa airport in the country’s capital, Amman. Abu Ghaith was seized by CIA operatives in Jordan in early March, before being deported to the US.
