Jordanian parliamentarian Suleiman Alaqtash has shocked other politicians in the country’s House of Representatives after kissing a microphone before making a speech. Alaqtash said: “Let me kiss the mic I have missed for 13 years.” The National Union Party politician was referring to his failure to get elected across three parliamentary elections. He then kissed the microphone, in an apparent gesture of gratitude. Members of the public and social media users have reacted with anger and humour to the incident. Some journalists took to Facebook to condemn Alaqtash’s behaviour as “shameful.” While one Twitter user joked: “Did the microphone like the kiss?” Eyewitnesses said the incident was “unprecedented.”
