Ambassador Jamal Al-Ghuneim
Kuwait City - Arab Today

The State of Kuwait stands prepared for the discussion of its second periodical national report at the UN Human Rights Council on Thursday, Kuwait's permanent delegate at the UN and international organizations in Geneva Ambassador Jamal Al-Ghuneim said here on Wednesday.
The review of Kuwait's human rights records is part of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR), which is a unique process that involves a review of the human rights records of all UN Member States. The UPR is a State-driven process, under the auspices of the Human Rights Council, which provides the opportunity for each State to declare what actions they have taken to improve the human rights situations in their countries and to fulfil their human rights obligations.
As one of the main features of the Council, the UPR is designed to ensure equal treatment for every country when their human rights situations are assessed.
Kuwait's second review demonstrates progress it made since the first review in 2010 according to recommendations accepted by Kuwait to improve its human rights criteria, he told KUNA, noting that as all UN member states should be subject to such reviews every four and a half years.
During the second human rights review, the Kuwaiti delegation will stress Kuwait's cooperation with UN mechanisms in the field of promoting and safeguarding human rights in Kuwait, he said.
The Kuwaiti delegate reiterated his country's abidance by the principle of full transparency in addressing human rights dossiers.
Al-Ghuneim considered the periodical review of Kuwait's human rights dossier at the UN as a precious opportunity for self-criticism and sound analysis by means of maintaining successes and wiping out problems and obstacles through capitalizing on others' expertise.
Through its national report to the UN Human Rights Council, the State of Kuwait will accurately and reliably spotlight its interest in human rights mechanisms by regularly presenting periodical reports, he added.
Led by the minister of labor and social affairs, the Kuwaiti delegation comprises experts the ministries of interior, justice, social affairs, health, education and foreign affairs.
