A Libyan military officer was killed in an ambush in Benghazi on Tuesday, a spokesman of the Libyan Special Forces told MENA.
He said the slain officer was in charge of securing vital buildings in Si Farag area in Benghazi.
Meanwhile, at least 18 people have been killed in intense fighting in eastern Libya, BBC reported.
The fighting started when Ansar al-Sharia militants attacked forces loyal to renegade General Khalifa Haftar in Benghazi, who hit back with airstrikes.
Benghazi is at the center of a two-week long campaign by Gen Haftar's forces against Islamist armed groups.
