Nouakchott - Mohammad Sharif Aabidi

Mauritanian Youth activists who walked a 570km rally from Nouadhibou (the economic capital of Mauritania) to the capital Nouakchott, have protested in front of the presidential palace, joined by  representatives of opposition parties and movements. The small group of activists who walked for two weeks to reach the Mauritanian capital, using the slogan  \"Defending the Oppressed\" for their rally, sent a message to President Mohammed Walad Abdulaziz including a list of general and individual oppression cases, asking him to address them. They have revealed they are planning further events and protests in the near future. The group\'s spokesperson, said that the group is planning to return to the presidential palace on Sunday, in an attempt to meet President Walad Abdulaziz, whom they anticipate will respond favourably to their demands for which they have walked a long distance to support.  The spokesman added that the group is totally independent and not associated with any other organisation. The activists reached the outskirts of Nouakchott a few days ago, where they stayed in a camp before entering the city on Saturday to protest in front of the presidential palace. The group consists of seven persons including two women.
