Militant attack kills 9 in north Pakistan

At least nine people were killed in an attack on a house by militants in Peshawar City of northern Pakistan Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province on Wednesday, said officials. According to police officials, the incident occurred in the Budhbher area of the city as militants entered a house, opened fire, and hurled hand grenades. The officials confirmed that militants hurled two hand grenades killing at least nine people of the same family including women and children. The people who were killed in the attack belonged to government supported Aman Lashkar (peace militia) and the house also belonged to a policeman who was killed last Sunday. Aman Lashkar is an anti-Taliban militia of local residents of tribal areas, backed and armed by the government to encounter the militants in the region. Police reached the place of the incident immediately but the attackers managed to escape the scene having an encounter with police. The bodies of the dead were shifted to nearby Khyber Medical College. The security forces carried a search operation in the area. Budhber is situated on the outskirts of Peshawar, bordering Khyber Agency of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA). Source: KUNA
