The formation of a new political party has been announced in Egypt today. During a press event in the capital, members of the Entemma party confirmed their new political status, after winning the approval of the Committee of Political Parties. Entemma, meaning “belonging” in Arabic, has already declared that it will run in the next parliamentary elections, with hopes of gaining 140 seats. The party will be led by former presidential candidate Dr Ibrahim Ghraib, with prominent members including sports industry favourite Majid Al Sayed and the former football captain of Zamalek, Reza Hemida. In a statement issued earlier today, Entemma said “the country belongs to its people, not rulers or governments” and stressed the need for the state “to restore confidence”. The newly formed party also confirmed that key policies in its manifesto will include “equality, independence of the judiciary and a free and fair media.” Speaking at a press conference, Dr Ghraib, attacked the ruling Muslim Brotherhood, blaming the regime for creating a “divisive society” He urged the government to work harder to restore the country\'s troubled economy, adding that his party would push to introduce a new scheme whereby Egyptians will be able to put their money in national banks, without fears of corruption. \"Our goal is not to allow money laundering, but to help the recovery of the Egyptian economy, especially during a period of low foreign investments in Egypt,” said Ghraib.
