Number of Baghdad attacks exaggerated

A spokesperson for the Iraqi Interior Ministry has said reports of around 150 cars bombs having recently occurred in the streets of Baghdad are exaggerated and are designed to weaken the government, which is currently fragile. General Saad Maan Ibrahim told Arab Today, “We don’t want to underestimate the danger of al Qaeda repeatedly targeting the capital, however exaggerating the number of attempted car bombs comes from someone wishing to create fear among residents.” He said security forces quickly became in control after recent attacks during the Islamic month of Ramadan, which saw the killing of 15 civilians in the streets of Baghdad. Maan said some television groups and social media networks were involved in a campaign to promote fear in people, and to demonise the country. Iraqi civilians and authorities, he explained are committed to restoring peace once again in the country. He called on security forces, and residents to unite and form a, “security body that is aware and can face ?all the problems”. Maan denied there is a potential coup forming in the country which is seeking to destabilise the government.
