An officer was killed while foiling a smuggling operation along international borders in Rafah on Wednesday, a security source said.
Border guards detected three cars at the international sign number 3 along the borders.
Sergeant Ahmed Fouad Hassan was killed in a shootout with the smugglers who managed to run away.
Security forces are combing the area to arrest the attackers.
Elsewhere, sappers defused two fake bombs in the precincts of a school complex in Beheira.
