The leader of the Egyptian opposition bloc has urged the Egyptian people to bin the new draft constitution. Mohamed ElBaradei, Chairman of the Constitution Party, took to Twitter to reject the draft. “A constitution that lifts our freedoms and rights is a constitution we will topple today. Our strength is in our determination,” the politician tweeted. President Morsi cancelled last week the constitutional decree issued on November 22, which sparked violence across the country. Seven people were killed in clashes and hundreds were injured. Vice President Mahmoud Mekki said to the press that the referendum on the new draft constitution will be held as scheduled on December 15. ElBaradei and former presidential candidate Amr Moussa have urged the government to postpone the referendum. The National Rescue Front declared they would refuse to hold a referendum on a constitution that does not guarantee the rights of marginalised groups. In an interview with Arabstoday, a well-informed source from the National Rescue Front said that the dialogue between Morsi and opposing political forces did not meet their expectations: the referendum was not postponed, which will cause more confrontations. The front will call for a general strike. The source, who asked not to be named, added: \"The cancellation of the decree issued on November 22, without cancelling the decisions based on it, does not meet the demands of the front, \"Morsi has extended the deadline of the Constituent Assembly in the previous declaration. Why can’t he postpone the referendum if extending the Assembly’s deadline is possible?” questioned the source.
