Prominent Fatah member Azam al-Ahmed has announced the Palestinian faction will meet with Hamas on Monday, in attempts to resolve disagreements surrounding ongoing reconciliation talks. The Central Elections Committee will also complete voter registration in the Gaza Strip on Monday. Al-Ahmed warned that “Israel’s insistence at depriving Palestinians of taxation money would only cement reconciliation,” stressing that ending division was imperative to resisting these efforts. Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas will reportedly use Monday’s meeting to discuss prospective members of a new Palestinian government. A date for elections would be announced soon, al-Ahmed said, although parliamentary and presidential elections are expected within the next three months.
