Rebel activist killed trying to storm Yemen government HQ

Yemeni police shot dead at least one Shiite rebel activist on Tuesday when they opened fire on hundreds of protesters attempting to storm government headquarters, a protest organiser said.
"Police fired live rounds at protesters, killing at least one of them and wounding five," the organising committee member told AFP.
The rebel activists have been camped out in the capital for weeks in a campaign to bring down the government and secure greater representation in state institutions.
Thousands of rebel activists marched towards the city centre from Change Square, the epicentre of the 2011 uprising that forced veteran strongman Ali Abdullah Saleh from power which the rebels have made a major focus of their own protest campaign.
Some activists blocked the capital's main thoroughfares,  while others marched on government headquarters, witnesses said.
The marchers were met by anti-riot police who fired tear gas, water cannon and live rounds.
Police prevented the protesters from penetrating the government offices but they regrouped nearby, the witnesses said.
