Armed militants attacked a gas pipeline feeding electricity station in southern Syria on Tuesday, causing an electricity blackout in much of the capital districts and other southern provinces, the state news agency SANA reported.
The attack led to an increase in the electricity rationing hours in the southern provinces, said SANA, citing officials in the electricity ministry.
The maintenance work has been initiated to fix the damages as quickly as possible, said the ministry.
The electricity sector in Syria has suffered greatly during the country's long-running conflict.
The Electricity Ministry places the losses of the electricity sectors as a result of the crisis at millions of U.S. dollars.
