UN Secretary General Christopher Ross arrived to Algeria for a meeting to discuss developments in the Western Sahara conflict, sources said. He was received by Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, Algerian Foreign Minister Mourad Madlessi and Minister for Moroccan Affairs Abdul Qadir Masahil. Ross called on Morocco and the Polisario Front to begin negotiations without any preconditions. He said in his meeting with the Algerian president, he discussed developments and issues regarding the conflict and ways to protect refugees. Christopher Ross’ visit was part of his tour to the region aimed at solving the Western Sahara conflict between Morocco and the Polisario Front. The UN envoy with senior Algerian officials will try to find a fair and acceptable political solution for the Western Sahara conflict and mintaining the rights of all Saharans to self-determination.
