Speaker of Egypt’s Shura Council, Ahmed Fahmy, has stressed the importance of rekindling relations between Sudan and Egypt during a press conference in Khartoum. Cooperation between the Nile nations had suffered “considerable negligence” in recent years, Fahmy said, as a result of policies adopted by the regime of former President Hosni Mubarak. Speaking during a press conference in Khartoum, the Speaker said that Sudan required Egyptian investment as well as integration in education, medicine and other fields. Fahmy claimed Egypt’s parliamentary body had established a new committee to serve mutual Egyptian and African interests in the region, following the country's successful January 25 revolution in 2011.
