The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) announced on Saturday that the number of people from South Sudan seeking shelter in Sudan has increased to 24,700. Humanitarian aid organizations provided several humanitarian assistance and food aid to the refugees who are fleeing from South Sudan, particularly from the areas of south and west Kordofan, OCHA noted in a report. South Sudan is currently embroiled in its own civil war that broke out late last year. What began as a conflict between soldiers loyal to the President Salva Kiir and his former deputy Riek Machar, turned into what many are describing as civilian massacres. Half a million people have been displaced since December, and although there are no definitive numbers, reports claim thousands have died. Source: KUNA
