Sudan’s President Omar al Bashir is scheduled to attend the first anniversary of the death of Ethiopian Prime Minister, Meles Zenawi, in Addis Abbaba, on August 20. Bashir will meet with Prime Minister Haile Mariam Dessalines, at the ceremony to be held at Faith hall, in the capital. As part of the two day tour, Bashir will discuss economic relations between the African nations and regional cooperation in areas of security. The pair are also expected to hold talks on South Sudan’s plans to export oil through Sudanese territories, which had previously come to a stalemate. Bashir hopes to revive the deal, which through Ethiopian mediation was saved from being scrapped altogether. Tuesday’s ceremony will commemorate the achievements of the late Dessalines in promoting peace between South Sudan and the breakaway territory of the north. South Sudanese Prime Minister Salva Kiir Mayardit is also expected to attend the event.
