Sudanese ministers visit North Kordofan

A senior security delegation led by the Sudanese ministers of defense and interior visited North Kordofan in Western Sudan on Monday in the wake of the attack by Darfur rebels at the city of Um Rawaba on Saturday. The Minister of Defence, Abdel Rahim Mohamed Hussein and the Interior Minister Ibrahim Mahmoud Hamid, were briefed on the situation in a number of areas in the North Kordofan state. They also supervised the arrangements made to safeguard the area against another assault. Members of the Sudanese Revolutionary movement attacked the largest city in Kordofan, in the latest push by the rebel group to topple the regime of Sudanese President Omar Al-Bashir. Ten people were killed in the aftermath, while banks and homes were looted. The Sudanese parliament also held a closed session on Monday to assess the findings of the report by the Chairman of the Commission on Security and Defense Mohammed al Hassan al Amin, who also visited the city Um Rawaba following the rampage. The number of people displaced during the on-going conflict in the Western region between rebel groups and government officials has reached 4,500, mostly made of women and children and continues to grow.
