A suicide bomber on Sunday rammed an explosives-laden car into a military police base in Mukalla, in southeast Yemen, killing 11 soldiers, a military source said. Six other soldiers and a civilian were wounded in the attack, which came as Yemen's military pursued an offensive against jihadists in southern provinces. The military source initially said that four soldiers were killed in the blast but later revised the toll upwards after "seven more bodies were found under the rubble". A security source said the bomber detonated his explosives near an army barracks after storming one of the gates of the military police base. Yemeni forces launched on April 29 an offensive against militants of Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula in the contiguous provinces of Abyan, Shabwa and Baida. AQAP is considered by Washington as the most dangerous affiliate of Al-Qaeda and has been linked with failed terror attempts against the United States. Source: AFP
