Syrian fighter jets flew over parts of the Bekaa region in eastern Lebanon on Sunday, media reports said. Voice of Lebanon radio (100.5) said that the jets flew over the outskirts of the town of Arsal. The development was accompanied by strikes against locations in Syria near the border with Lebanon. Ad Diyar daily had also reported on Sunday that Syrian warplanes had flown over the Bekaa. They flew at low altitude and headed towards the Hermel region before entering Syria and reaching Homs. It noted that this was the first time that Syrian jets fly over the Bekaa since that eruption of the crisis in Syria in March 2011. Syrian troops had repeatedly infiltrated Lebanese border regions in pursuit of what it called armed gangs and army defectors. Rockets fired in border areas have repeatedly landed in Lebanese territories. The Lebanese army has bolstered its presence along the border with Syrian in order to thwart the violations. Foreign Minister Adnan Mansour had told An Nahar daily in remarks published on Sunday that rockets fired in Syrian border clashes landing in nearby Lebanese areas is inevitable.
