Jordan\'s security forces say the military has arrested four unarmed Syrian soldiers found in the zone between the two countries\' borders. A security source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said the men were arrested on Monday and are currently being questioned. It is currently unclear whether the soldiers were trying to enter Jordan or were attempting to return to Syria. Jordanian civilians living near the border with Syria reported heavy clashes between the Jordanian and Syrian armies late on Saturday night, during which time the Syrian army allegedly crossed the border and used attack helicopters. One Syrian shell landed near a mosque in Ramtha, causing Jordanian tanks stationed at the border to return fire towards Syria. Syrian opposition activists said that heavy clashes are raging between forces loyal to President Assad and the Free Syrian Army in the southern Syrian city of Daraa. Residents of southern Syria have fled southward across the Jordanian border to escape the violent uprising that has plagued the country for 21 months. Nearly 500,000 Syrians have already found refuge in neighbouring Jordan.
