Tunisia - Nabil Zaghdoud

A Tunisian lawyer said his office had been deposed on the back of his defense of Ayyub al-Masoudi, a former adviser to Tunisian President Moncef Marzouki who is on trial before the military court on charges of "insulting the army." The lawyer and political activist Nasser al-Awini who is known for his scream in Habib Bourguiba Avenue in the night, in which the regime of Zine el-Abidine Ben Ali fell, said that unknown people tried to force open the door of his office in which he works. He explained in a statement to Arabstoday: "This is an encrypted message on the background of the case of Ayyub Masoudi yesterday, the former adviser to the president who stands before military courts and my declarations to the media about how the judicial system lacks independence. This is a cowardly attempt to silence me, but I'm not afraid of anyone or any authority no matter how high it is. All those who thought of attacking my rights or me, will be held responsible eventually. I do not forgive and the coming days will reveal." Nasser al-Awini had stated while attending the Wednesday hearing of the former adviser to President of Tunisia that the military judiciary is not independent and is subject to the instructions of the state.
