Somali security forces have arrested two suspected Al-Shabaab members and seized a car carrying explosives in two operations in the southeastern region of Benadir.
Spokesman for the Ministry of Internal Security, Abdikamil Moallim Shukri, told reporters on Saturday that the suspects wanted to carry out attacks using the explosives.
"The security forces seized a car with explosive devices in which the militants were driving in. The militants ran away when they discovered that the security forces were pursuing them," Shukri said, adding that one suspect was arrested in the operation.
In another operation, the security forces also arrested an Al-Shabaab suspect.
"The two key operations were conducted in Warta-Nabbada and Yakhshid districts in Benadir region on Friday night. Investigations towards the suspect and the car bomb are going," the spokesman said.
Islamist militant group Al-Shabaab, fighting against the Somali government, frequently carries out attacks in Somalia.
