Unknown armed assailants invaded the house of tribal leader Mohamed Taher el-Jaboury in Iraq on Monday and killed him with machine guns. A security source from Nineveh’s police department told Arabstoday that Jaboury was “one of the most prominent supporters of demonstrations organised to protest against policies adopted by the Iraqi government.” The source said that police transferred Jaboury’s body to hospital, while a security campaign was launched to arrest those responsible. A number of Iraqi governorates witnessed demonstrations calling for a change to government policy, demanding the release of female prisoners and the prosecution of those who sexually harassed them.
