A reliable security source here said the blast that took place late Saturday near the evacuated US embassy was caused by a highly explosive charge planted in front of the embassy gate.
The source told the Yemeni news agency, under the control of Houthis, that the blast did not cause any casualties or injuries.
The source blasted the attackers for attempting to destabilize security in the Yemeni capital Sanaa.
Yemen is engulfed in an armed conflict between Houthi militants, the country’s main opposition faction, and government forces.
The United States is shuttering the doors to the U.S. Embassy in Yemen and evacuating its diplomats following a violent uprising of Shia Houthi rebels that led to the resignation of the nation’s president.
The evacuation comes just as political talks have stalled and the security situation on the ground has deteriorated, The Associated Press reported.
