A researcher on the Western Sahara file, Mostafa Naeemi, said that a phone call on Saturday between Morocco’s King Mohammed VI and the United Nation’s Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon saw the two discuss the next steps on Western Sahara since the withdrawal of UN envoy Christopher Ross in May. Naeemi said in an interview with Arabstoday: \"This evolution reflects a kind of flexibility by the United Nations to work on bringing the views of Morocco and Algeria closer.” Naeemi explained that the file is taking its normal course and that the term of the current UN envoy is short. There is no doubt that there is a trend towards the appointment of a new UN envoy. The flexibility of the positions of the United Nations and Morocco indicates that the file has returned to its path, and the two sides are trying to work with a serious approach. Naeemi added: \"This development clarified the ability of the United Nations to reconsider everything related to the relationship between Morocco and Algeria as it is pivotal in the file.”
