A Yemeni security official and a soldier accompanying him have been shot dead in Dhammar province, south of the capital Sanaa. Security sources told Arabstoday that the Deputy Director of the Jabal al-Shark Security Directorate, Lieutenant Abdel Aziz Baflah, and his companion were killed when their police vehicle was ambushed by unidentified gunmen on Wednesday. The sources said the two men were attacked whilst they were on their way to deal with a security issue on the road connecting the cities of al-Hadida, Dhammar and Sanaa. Security forces were later deployed on the road to track down the suspects. The sources refused to speculate on the identity of the attackers or the motive of the attack.
