A man was killed and 30 were injured in a clash between the supporters of two former union parishad members in Nabinagar upazila of Brahmanbaria Sunday morning. Police picked up five villagers in connection with the murder, reports our Brahmanbaria correspondent. Police said the supporters of Madan Miah and Taher Miah, former UP members of Bhairabnagar union, locked in the clash at Bhairabnagar Bazar around 7:00am following an altercation over a trivial matter. Both the groups attacked each other with bamboo sticks and sharp weapons during the clash that continued for two hours. At one stage of the clash, Yasin Miah, 25, a supporter of Taher Miah, was hit by a spear and died on the spot, said Mizanur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Nabinagar Police Station. On information, police rushed to the spot, dispersed the feuding groups and picked up five people in connection with the killing. The injured were admitted to different local hospitals. There has been a longstanding conflict between the two UP members following establishing supremacy over the village, the OC said.
