1 of FBI\'s 10 Most Wanted Fugitives arrested in Mexico

A former U.S. university professor who was on the FBI\'s Ten Mosted Wanted Fugitives list has been arrested, local authorities said Tuesday. Gaspar Armando Garcia, the Quintana Roo state prosecutor, said Walter Lee Williams was arrested in Playa del Carmen, a resort city south of Cancun on Mexico\'s Caribbean coast. Williams, 64, is accused  in a U.S. federal indictment of sexually exploiting children and traveling abroad to engage in sexual acts with children. Garcia said Williams was arrested late Tuesday while drinking coffee near a park in Playa del Carmen. The prosecutor said it wasn\'t clear how long Williams had been living in the Caribbean beach town and that he also had an address in nearby Cancun, where he was taken and turned over to Mexican immigration officials. Williams allegedly travelled from Los Angeles to the Philippines in January 2011 to commit sex acts with two 14-year-old boys he met online in 2010, according to a statement released Monday by the U.S. Justice Department. Williams fled the Los Angeles area about one week after returning from the Philippines, the Justice Department said. Until 2011, Williams was a tenured professor at the University of Southern California, where his field of study was gender development. He was also affiliated with the Buddhist Universal Association of Los Angeles, the FBI said.
