Two police officers were among 11 people killed when villagers attacked a police station in China's Kashgar prefecture, officials said. Nine people armed with knives and axes charged the police station in Selibuya township Saturday, China Daily reported Sunday. Two assistant officers died and police shot and killed all nine of the attackers, the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region's government information office said. Two police officers were treated for injuries and released from a hospital, the office said. It was the second attack on the police station this year, China Daily said. On April 23, 23 people attacked the police station resulting in 21 deaths, including six attackers, six police officers and nine bystanders. Police blamed the April 23 attack on religious extremism and terrorism.
