160 men with bats, guns and knives detained near Surgut

The police have detained more than 160 people, mostly young men, with bats, handguns and knives who were heading for the city of Surgut, a spokesman for the Khanty-Mansi police department told Itar-Tass on Sunday. According to the spokesman, traffic police stopped a motorcade heading for Surgut from Nizhnevartovsk and Nefteyugansk. “More than 160 people and some 99 motor cars were detained. The police searched the vehicles and seized a big number of bats, several non-lethal handguns and knives,” the spokesman said. The police say they have prevented possible riots.
