Tunisian naval forces on Friday foiled an attempt by 17 people to illegally immigrate to Italy.

In a statement earlier in the day, the Tunisian Interior Ministry said that a police patrol arrested 17 people including four women and a man from Comoro Islands.

They confessed to an attempt to cross the country’s borders into Europe, the statement said.

It added that one of the Tunisian detainees was previously accused of membership to terror group.
