
Police backed by the army have killed over two dozen Taliban militants during cleanup operations which lasted for one week in Shindand District of the western Herat Province, provincial police chief Samiullah Qatra said Sunday. "During the one-week cleanup operation which winded up on Saturday evening, 27 Taliban rebels had been killed, 15 injured and two others captured in Shindand district," Qatra told Xinhua. "Nowadays the Shindand District is peaceful," he said, adding during the operations only three Afghan soldiers were injured. Taliban militants have yet to make comment.
