29 killed, 70 injured as blast hits Peshawar, Pakistan

At least 29 people were killed and 70 others injured as a blast hit Pakistan\'s Northwest city of Peshawar on Sunday morning, said hospital sources. A spokesman of Peshawar\'s Lady Reading Hospital, which admitted all the blast victims, told local media two women and two children were among the 29 people killed in the blast, Xinhua reported. Many of the injured were in critical condition, said the spokesman, adding that the death toll could further rise. The blast took place at about 10:50 am local time when a remote-controlled bomb planted inside a car parked nearby a police station at a market area of the city went off, leaving a dozen shops and several vehicles nearby completely destroyed. The blast also caused a huge fire on the site, local TV channel footage revealed. No group has claimed the responsibility for the attack yet. Both Pakistani president and prime minister have issued statements strongly condemning the attack. Sunday\'s blast in Peshawar is the third serious terrorist attack in the city over the past week or so. On Sunday, or Sept 22, a twin suicide bomb attack on a Christian church in Peshawar claimed more than 80 lives. On Friday afternoon, a bus carrying government employees was hit by a blast planted inside it, leaving at least 19 people dead.
