4 killed, 38 injured in US embassy riot in Yemen

Yemen Interior Ministry confirmed that riots occurred on Thursday at the US embassy in Sana’a led to killing 4 citizens and wounding 38 others, including 10 soldiers. According to Yemen News Agency (SABA), the security reports on damage showed that the sabotage acts resulted in destroying 61 vehicles belonging to the embassy and burning 13 other cars, in addition to damaging the embassy’s gates, guard rooms along with guard equipment. The Ministry said that the security authorities have held 8 people aged between 18-30 years in custody in connection with the US embassy riots. After the riots, President Abdo Rabbo Mansour Hadi, the Yemeni government and the security affaires committee strongly condemned the assault. The Government expressed absolute refusal of such sabotage, stressing that it would provide required security measures to protect the diplomatic embassies and missions in Yemen. It stressed that the incident will not affect on the Yemeni-US distinctive relations. President Hadi gave orders to form a committee to identify the incident’s circumstances and punish the offenders and instigators. Meanwhile, the military affairs committee said it would consider any attack on public and private institutions, embassies and consulates as a terrorist sabotage act. It said that all security units and officers have been ordered to deal strictly with any violent and sabotage act.
