Leaders from the Muslims Council of Elders and the Anglican Communion started their fourth forum in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday.
The forum is held under the theme ''Towards an understanding, integrated world''.
The meeting will discuss a wide range of issues, including interfaith dialogue, citizenship, co-existence and mutual respect.
Speaking at the forum's opening session, Al Azhar Grand Imam Dr Ahmed el Tayyeb stressed the necessity of achieving peace, understanding and brotherhood among religious scholars to undertake their role in spreading peace across the globe.
Today's meeting aims at building an integrated world that works together to alleviate the people's suffering from pain, poverty, bloodshed and wars, Tayyeb said.
Al Azhar took tangible steps to bring about peace among the religious scholars, Tayyeb said, citing his visits to the Canterbury Cathedral and the World Council of Churches, as well as his visit to the Vatican where he met Pope Francis.
