Five Tunisian armed militants who killed a national guard on Monday have managed to flee to Algeria, Kapitalis news website reported on Tuesday, quoting a security source. The insurgents clashed with Tunisian security forces for over 24 hours, and then escaped from a joint army and national guard operation in a mountainous area 3 km from the border. The five men had taken refuge in a mountain grotto, where security forces found mattresses, food, cell phone recharging cards and an Algerian identity card, the report said. Earlier Tuesday, Tunisian national guard said in a statement that clashes did not resume during the day. The guard was buried in his native village in the governorate of Kairouan on Monday. The guard is the sixth security officer to have died this year in clashes with alleged Islamist militants
