6 Hurt in Syria-linked Lebanon clash

Six people were wounded in a shootout between pro- and anti-Damascus regime supporters in Lebanon on Monday, an official said, as conflict in Syria again rattled security in its small neighbour. The security official said three Sunni Muslims and three members of the Alawite sect, an offshoot of Shiite Islam -- were hurt when shots were fired from rival districts of Lebanon\'s second city, the northern port of Tripoli. The gunfire came from the mainly Sunni anti-Assad district of Bab el-Tebbaneh, and from the pro-Syrian regime Alawite neighbourhood of Jabal Mohsen. Lebanese soldiers fired back at the sources of the shots. Syrian President Bashar al-Assad is a member of the Alawite community.
