71% of Egyptians disapprove of pro-Morsi demonstrations

Seventy-one percent of Egyptians disapprove of the Islamic Brotherhood-led protests in support of ousted President Mohamed Morsi, a poll indicated. The Egyptian Center for Public Opinion Research poll found 20 percent of Egyptians were in support of the pro-Morsi rallies while 9 percent were unsure. People living in rural areas were more sympathetic to the demonstrations than those who live in urban areas, with 21 percent approval and 67 percent disapproval in rural areas and 17 percent and 77 percent, respectively, in urban areas, Ahram Online reported. The former president\'s Islamist backers have been staging sit-ins and demonstrations in Cairo and elsewhere since June 28. Morsi was ousted July 3 by the country\'s army during massive anti-Islamic Brotherhood protests. The Egyptian Center for Public Opinion Research polled 2,214 adults by telephone during the weekend. The margin or error is less than 3 percentage points.
