The British military said here on Saturday that a U.K. soldier has been killed by a roadside bomb in southern Afghanistan. The Ministry of Defense said a soldier from 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards died when his vehicle hit a bomb in the Nahr-e Saraj district of Helmand Province. The soldier's name was not released but his family has been informed. The death brings the number of British personnel killed in Afghanistan since 2001 to 428. The death was not related to a large Taliban attack on Camp Bastion, the main British base in southern Afghanistan. The base is home to thousands of international troops and to Prince Harry, a British army helicopter pilot. Two U.S. Marines died in the Taliban attack. The ministry said Saturday that no British troops were killed.
