Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Tuesday received a verbal message from Jordanian King Abdullah II on the latest developments, following up on recent phone communication between the two leaders. The message was delivered by Jordanian Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh as he met with Abbas in Ramallah today. Judeh stressed the necessity to calm the deteriorating situation in the Gaza Strip, warning that the continued escalation will exacerbate the humanitarian situation of the Palestinian people, increase regional tension and affect its security and stability. The Jordanian official reiterated his country’s support for the steadfastness of the Palestinian people in Gaza by intensifying communications with the different parties, enhancing the equipment of the military field hospital in Gaza, and moving humanitarian convoys to the Strip. Judeh highlighted the need to find a comprehensive and just resolution for the Palestinian issue that ends the Israeli occupation and establishes an independent sovereign Palestinian state based on 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as a capital.
