Accurate database helps comprehensive development in Yemen

Minister of Planning and International Cooperation on Monday stressed the importance of creating an accurate database and information map to help comprehensive development purposes in Yemen. During an enlarged meeting held in Sana\'a on supporting the census of population 2014, Mohammed al-Sa\'adi said that creating an information bank is very necessary to provide precise and correct information and statistics to be a guide to help decision- and policy-makers in devising development plans in the country. \"Today, the world depends on figures, not only on diligence. Information is very necessary for the proper move towards development, so we should focus on providing exact information and statistical indicators and improve the data extraction through training the related pertinent cadres.\" Al-Sa\'adi pointed to the importance of the donors\' support for the Central Statistical Organization (CSO) with the necessary equipment for the implementation of the various stages of the General Census of Population, Housing and Establishments of 2014. UNDP resident representative in Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed and representative of Department for International Development (DFID) Kate Orkin delivered speeches in the meeting, underlining the importance of the census, which will provide clear and precise data that help in decision-making to enhance the development efforts in Yemen. Both called on donors to provide the aid required to implement the 2014 census, \"thereby helping to improve the situation in the various fields in Yemen,\" they said. The meeting reviewed an achievement report on the arrangements the CSO has made so far to implement the 2014 census according to the set timeframe.
