Afghanistan readies for 2014 presidential election

Afghanistan\'s 2014 presidential election process has officially begun with poor security as the main challenge in the voting process. Afghanistan’s Independent Election Commission (IEC) chief Fazal Ahmad Manawi in a statement on Monday said, \"The voter registration will last for two months and will cover approximately 4 million people across the country.\" Manawi stated, “security remains the biggest concern of the voting process.\" There were complaints of massive fraud, in the last presidential election in 2009 when attacks by the Taliban disrupted voting in dozens of centers. No one officially announced for the candidacy of the presidential election. One of Karzai’s brothers and Atta Muhammad Noor Mazar-e Sharif governor and Fauzia Koufi, a prominent female lawmaker, are among the would-be presidential candidates.
