Al Azhar grand sheikh, Ashton discuss Egypt stability efforts

Grand Sheikh of Al-Azhar Dr. SheikhAhmed el-Tayyeb met here on Wednesday with Catherine Ashton, the European Union\'s high representative for foreign affairs and security policy, who is currently visiting Cairo for talks with senior officials. During thehe meeting, they reviewed the latest developments in Egypt and efforts to reinstate security and stability besides Al-Azhar\'s initiatives and the EU efforts to support Egypt. Ashton met today earlier with Foreign Minister Nabil Fahmy where they reviewed relations between Egypt and the European Union, especially with regards to aid and investment, besides regional issues such as the Syrian crisis, Palestinian-Israeli talks and the Iranian nuclear program. The visit is Ashton\'s third to Egypt since the June 30 protests, which preceded former President Mohamed Morsi\'s removal from power.
