Gen. Eid bin Awad Al-Shalawi has been named new commander of Saudi Ground Forces following the appointment of Prince Khaled bin Bandar as governor of Riyadh region. Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah, supreme commander of the armed forces, issued a royal decree promoting Al-Shalawi from the rank of lieutenant general to general and appointing him as commander of the ground forces. Al-Shalawi, who was commander of the Northwestern region, thanked King Abdullah for bestowing his confidence in him, adding that he would work hard to defend the nation. From Arab News
