Amal Abdullah Al Qubaisi
Abu Dhabi - Emirates Voice

Dr. Amal Abdullah Al Qubaisi, Speaker of the Federal National Council, FNC, and Rebecca Kadaga, Ugandan Parliament Speaker and the President of the African Geopolitical Group in the Inter-Parliamentary Union, IPU, have signed two Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) between the FNC, the Parliament of the Republic of Uganda and the IPU African Group, which include 51 countries, at the FNC’s headquarters in Abu Dhabi.
The signing of the MoUs is considered the first of its kind by an Arab parliamentary institution to develop co-operation in various fields, especially parliamentary co-operation, between the UAE and Uganda, and to launch communication and partnerships with the African continent based on their mutual universal values and their growing political and economic interests, as well as their common cultural and intellectual viewpoints.
The two MoUs aim to activate parliamentary relations between all the relevant parties to exchange experience and knowledge, co-ordinate visions and stances in international parliamentary forums and emphasise the role of parliaments in promoting international cultural and social dialogue. They also aim to highlight the importance of combining efforts to maintain security, stability, peace and respect for the sovereignty of countries and non-interference in their internal affairs, as well as abiding by international conventions and treaties and preventing sectarian conflicts.
Dr. Al Qubaisi stressed that the signing of the MoUs will implement the FNC’s strategy for 2016-2021, which includes several initiatives such as improving integration between parliamentary and official diplomacy, developing effective plans for international parliamentary participation and building parliamentary partnerships with influential international institutions and parliaments of friendly countries, with the aim of achieving the best local and international parliamentary performance.
She added that the UAE is keen, through its plans, strategies and objectives, to work for the future of the country and its coming generations, and to activate communication and partnerships and promote co-operation, friendship and mutual respect with various countries and people from around the world, to achieve security, peace and prosperity.
