
Kuwait's Permanent Delegate to the UNESCO Dr. Ali Al-Tarrah said Wednesday the elections of the Organization's Executive Board witnessed fierce competition and led to the Arab group of states winning four seats. "Egypt won 136 votes, followed by Kuwait - 128 votes, Algeria - 124 votes, and Morocco - 119 votes," Al-Tarrah told KUNA here. "The great support to Kuwait's candidate former minister of education Dr. Hassan Al-Ibrahim testifies to the country's sound foreign policy and balanced relations with all countries of the world. "This materializes the country's presence on the international area especially at a time when we set the stage for the Third African-Arab Summit," he added. Al-Tarrah extolled His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, HH the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, HH the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah and Minister of Education and Minister of Higher Education Dr. Nayef Al-Hajrah for their support to the UNESCO activities. The elections of the 58-member UNESCO Executive Board have been held during the ongoing 37th session of the Organization's General Conference.
