Arab league denies resignation of Brahimi

The Arab League has denied circulating rumours that Secretary-General Dr. Nabil Al Arabi received the resignation of UN-Arab League Envoy to Syria Lakhdar Brahimi from his current mission.An official source at the Arab League General Secretariat said in remarks this evening that talk about the resignation of Brahimi were only mere assumptions.Arab press reports had said that Brahimi is moving seriously to resign from his mission no later than this April 18.The source said if Brahimi has an intention to offer his resignation, that will not take place before the meeting of Al Arabi with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, scheduled to be in New York on 22 April, to discuss the latest developments in Syria, including the task of Brahimi and whether it will be extended or not.Brahimi was chosen as the United Nations and the Arab League envoy to the Syrian crisis last August to succeed the first envoy Kofi Annan, who announced the failure of his mission in this regard.Al Arabi will head to Washington, within the visit of the Arab Ministerial Delegation headed by Qatar, in implementation of a decision by the Arab summit in Doha recently, calling for the formation of Arab delegation to inform the Obama administration on April 29 Arab position on the stalled Middle East peace process and how to push it forward.
