Arab League urges international pressure on Israel to end occupation of Palestinian lands

The Arab League urged the international community to press Israel to end its occupation and settlement construction in the Palestinian territories.
In a statement on Wednesday which marks the Land Day, the pan-Arab organization called on the international community to prod Israel into halting its practices which torpedo peace efforts meant to set up an independent Palestinian state.
The AL warned of the gravity of the fait accompli policy.
The Land Day on March 30 is an annual day of commemoration for Palestinians of the events of that date in 1976. In response to the Israeli government's announcement of a plan to expropriate thousands of dunams of land for security and settlement purposes, a general strike and marches were organized in Arab towns from the Galilee to the Negev.
In the ensuing confrontations with the Israeli army and police, six unarmed Arab citizens were killed, about one hundred were wounded, and hundreds of others arrested.
